The walks are between 6 to 8 miles in the lovely countryside within easy reach of Harrow, or occasionally in London, using public transport to get to the start and to return home. Lunch is in a pub or café. Walks take place monthly on a Thursday.

15th February – Van Gogh House
Nestled in Stockwell, South London, the Van Gogh House is a beautifully preserved Georgian terrace where the world-famous
artist Vincent Van Gogh lived in 1873 while working as an art dealer. The house has been lovingly restored and offers a fascinating glimpse into his early London life — before he even picked up a paintbrush. The house was established in 2019 as
a site of creative production.You can explore the modest rooms where Van Gogh once wrote heartfelt letters to his brother Theo and admire thoughtful exhibitions that connect his art, faith, and philosophy. Guided tours share stories of his daily walks along the Thames and his time teaching at a local school .
Admission cost is £7.50. After the visit, there are several inviting lunch spots nearby.

22nd March – (one week later than usual because of Mother’s Day) – The Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art at the British Museum
The Foundation holds one of the most important collections of Chinese ceramics outside China, founded by the collector Sir Percival David (1892– 1964). This is housed in Room 95, on the North Wing, 4th Floor of the British Museum. The display includes outstanding examples from the Song (960–1279), Yuan (1279–1368), Ming (1368– 1644), and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties. The surrounding Asian art rooms offer further displays of sculpture, jade and calligraphy collections. The British Museum is free of charge. There are many cafés opposite the museum on Great Russell Street where we can lunch or you can bring a packed lunch. We meet at Harrow-on-the-Hill Station at 12.00 and travel together. 5th February—Jo Poole—’Caring for someone with Dementia’
Jo speaks from experience, noticing small changes in character, ‘brain fog’, a
certain vagueness before diagnosis. This is a topic which people find difficult to
think about but which touches many lives. Jo’s talk is to help make people aware of
the signs and the aid available.
5th March—Howard Slater—’The Life of Sammy Davis Jr.’
A retired, qualified lecturer, Howard Slater’s talk, which has been carefully
researched, includes film clips and documents covering the life and times of an
outstanding all-round entertainer.
2nd April—Estelle Lovatt FRSA—’How Artists Change Art History’
Creative ideas behind great artworks from the Renaissance to Contemporary Art, from Leonardo to Rembrandt, Manet, Rothko, Picasso, Tracey Emin and many, many others. Alongside the first moon landing in 1969, unmade bed, shark and pile of bricks, Estelle unlocks the art world for you, having collaborated on ‘The Complete History of Art (Abridged)’ with the Reduced Shakespeare Company; TV Channel 5’s ‘Great Paintings of the World’, and leads ‘Constable’s Hampstead Walk’ revealing how ‘The Hay Wain was painted in his garden shed, at his home in North London NW3, not Suffolk!
