How to Join
Who can join?
The U3A is open to all persons who are no longer in full time employment. The U3A motto is simply “Learn, Laugh, Live”. Please read the Principles of the U3A Movement on the Management page before joining or renewing.
What does it cost?
Annual membership runs from 1 October to 30 September though you may join at any time. As a special offer for July to September, we have introduced a new class of membership to reflect the fact that no physical meetings (either at Harrow Arts Centre or in members’ homes) can be held during this stage of the Covid-19 crisis. However, many meetings are going ahead using Zoom video conferencing software and other on-line systems. As this has resulted in savings for room rental, Harrow U3A has introduced a new “on-line” class of membership for which the reduced fee is £10.
What does the fee cover?
Your fee covers attendance at all on-line Harrow U3A meetings until the end of September.
How do you join?
Because we can only offer on-line services to our members, we are also currently only accepting applications to join entirely by on-line means.
If you would like to join Harrow U3A as an on-line member, please email the Membership Team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You will also need to pay your (£10) subscription by bank transfer (BACS) instead of by cheque (hopefully you will be able to do this, or maybe get a friend or relative to pay this way on your behalf). We will then send you the bank account details and a link to an electronic form to collect your contact details.
We will send you your membership card, the latest newsletter and other information. You will then be free to contact any of the Study Group leaders. You will also be invited to join our email news list, for breaking news about what’s on.
What is Gift Aid?
Harrow U3A is a registered charity (number 1009872). So, if you pay Income or Capital Gains Tax (which may be deducted at source) we are able to claim a refund from HMRC. It does not cost you anything, nor does it complicate your finances in any way, and it helps us keep our subscription rate as low as possible.
If you are thinking of joining Harrow U3A and need further information, please telephone Sheilah Lowe, our Enquiries Officer, on 020 8861 3821.
Our Membership Secretaries deal with the actual registration of new members and queries from existing members. They also handle new member enquiries in the absence of the Enquiries Officer. You can email them at email@example.com or phone 07908 533317.
